The late Fela Kuti…
A representative for the Kuti family says the family is not aware that a Fela Twitter page exists let alone being verified.
The account which was created back in October 2009 was recently verified by the micro-blogging site. When NET contacted Yeni Kuti,
eldest daughter of the late great Afrobeat legend, she said she was
neither apprised of the account nor did she know who created it.
‘I’m not on Twitter, I don’t know
who runs the account. I’ll run this by my people, this shouldn’t be
legal. I’ll have to get back to you‘, she told our reporter over the telephone.
NET did a little bit of investigation and found out that the account is actually being run by independent US label Knitting Factory Records (KFR). The label is responsible for re-releasing Fela’s catalog controlled by top gun label Universal Music.
Seun Kuti, Afrobeat singer and the last son of Fela released his 2011 album ‘From Africa With Fury: Rise‘ under the Knitting Factory imprint.
Our E-mails sent to KFR were not responded to as at the time of this report.
